Medical Services at Vaden

For URGENT medical advice that can't wait until we are open, you can call Vaden Health Center at 650.498.2336. Select Option 1 for Medical Services and Option 2 to be connected with our after hours service. Routine refills and insurance questions are not urgent. Please message your provider or the insurance office.

Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS)

For urgent mental health needs, please call CAPS 24/7 to access support: 650.723.3785.  For any life threatening concerns please call 911.

Sexual/Relationship Violence 

If you are in need of immediate or urgent support for a sexual/relationship violence concern please call: The 24/7 Sexual/Relationship Assault Hotline at 650.725.9955.

  • You can book an appointment for a time when Vaden is open, using the VadenPatient portal.  If you need care when Vaden is closed, the following local options exist (note: services provided at the facilities listed below will be billed to your insurance; please contact your carrier to confirm coverage).
    • Note: Students with Kaiser Insurance should contact Kaiser for information regarding after hours care.

Stanford Express Care

Offering primary care services for illnesses and minor injuries that need quick attention (e.g., congestion, fever, headache, rashes, vomiting/diarrhea, cuts, sprains, etc.) for individuals 6 months and older. Same day visits are available by appointment only. Call to make an appointment or schedule online, video visits available.

    • You will need to present your insurance card at the time of service.  If you have Cardinal Care, a $25 copay will apply.  If you have other insurance, copays or deductibles may apply; check with your insurance carrier to determine whether the care will be covered and the terms.
    • They can order COVID-19 testing when indicated.

Stanford Walk-In Clinic

If you have a minor illness or injury and need non-emergency care when Vaden is closed, the new Stanford Walk-In Clinic may be an option. Open Monday-Friday with extended hours from 3:30 – 11:00 p.m., patients 2 years and older can get care from Board-Certified physicians—no appointment is needed.

Palo Alto Urgent Care Center

Offering services for medical problems (e.g., broken bones, minor burns, etc.) that, while not emergencies, require attention within 24 hours.

    • You will need to present your insurance card at the time of service.  If you have Cardinal Care, a $50 copay will apply.  If you have other insurance, copays or deductibles may apply; check with your insurance carrier to determine whether the care will be covered and the terms.

Stanford Health Care Emergency Department  

Offering services for emergency situations which may threaten life or cause impairment (e.g., difficulty breathing, overdose, major injury, etc.)

    • Open 24 hours every day
    • Pediatrics (age 20 and younger) and Obstetrics care is provided at 900 Quarry Road Extension, Palo Alto, CA 94304
    • Adult care (age 21 and above) and Pediatric Trauma care is provided at 1199 Welch Road, Palo Alto, CA 94304
    • You will need to present your insurance card at the time of service.  If you have Cardinal Care, a $100 copay will apply.  If you have other insurance, copays or deductibles may apply; check with your insurance carrier to determine whether the care will be covered and the terms.

Important

If a follow-up visit with a specialist is recommended as a result of care at one of these facilities, AND you have Cardinal Care, be sure to contact Vaden’s Insurance Office during business hours @ (650) 723-2135 prior to scheduling the follow up appointment.  For Cardinal Care tier 1 coverage to apply, a referral from Vaden may be required, and the services need to be provided by Stanford specialists.
