Diversity & Inclusion at CAPS

Our Lens

CAPS is comprised of a diverse range of cross-disciplinary staff who are personally and ethically committed to providing care that is rooted in cultural humility and social-justice values. With these values, we endeavor to see each student as a unique individual with their own intersectional narrative and recognize that healing could and should look different for different people, communities, and presenting concerns.

More About CAPS

With this social-justice lens, we at CAPS are staunchly dedicated to centering diversity, equity, and inclusion not only in the services we provide but within the multiple systems we inhabit. While focusing on intersectionality issues can allow for community-building and a shared sense of belonging, it can also shed light on difficult issues of difference, bias, power, and privilege. As such, we strive to create a respectful, compassionate atmosphere that encourages self-awareness and reflection so that our providers can learn and grow together. Through workshops, education, training, and consultations, we continue to challenge ourselves and each other to better serve the diverse people and needs of Stanford’s community.

From our training and ongoing education, we are aware of the numerous impacts that personal and systemic oppression has on individuals and their mental health. We see all statements, acts, and behaviors that promote violence, discrimination, and hatred to be direct attacks on the well-being of Stanford students. We respect the humanity and dignity of each Stanford student, especially those who are members of groups that have been targeted both historically and presently. We continue to pledge not only our clinical services but our institutional voice and advocacy position, to the cause of equitable treatment for all.
