- Telephone: Please call 650.498.2336, Ext. 1
If you have an appointment, check in at the kiosk at the reception desk in the main lobby and you will be directed to your appointment. If you need to make an appointment, our staff will help you.
A nurse is available for simple medical questions or advice during the day.
- Call 650.498.2336 and ask for the advice nurse, Monday – Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., during the regular academic year and 9 am to 5 pm during the summer quarter, spring break and winter break.
- You can access your regular health care provider through the VadenPatient portal for routine questions and advice, medication refills, or the follow-up questions to a visit that are not urgent. These messages are not routinely checked on weekends, evening, holidays or if the clinician is not in the clinic that day.
- Please check in 10 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment time.
- If you are late, you may have to reschedule if other students are being served.
- Appointment times allow for about 15 minutes with the provider. If you think you may need a longer appointment, please call for our staff to assist you rather than trying to book two appointments.
- Some appointments have a questionnaire for you to complete over the web. You can access this on the VadenPatient portal.
- If you can’t make your appointment, please cancel so the time slot will become available to another student. You can cancel at any time on the VadenPatient portal.
Preventive Care: STI and Other Screening
A Health Assessment Visit is a comprehensive, evidence-based evaluation conducted in alignment with nationally recognized clinical and preventive health guidelines. The purpose of the visit is to assess the student’s overall health status and identify individual risk factors. This assessment incorporates the student’s age, medical and family history, and lifestyle factors to develop tailored recommendations for health promotion, disease prevention, and appropriate screening interventions.
- Physical examinations to meet special needs—for employment, scholarships, programs abroad, etc., are offered at Vaden for a fee. The charge for a physical exam depends upon the complexity of the examination you need. Charges vary for X-rays or immunizations. Please call to schedule an appointment.
We offer in-person, video, and online services related to sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) including
- Screening, if you are at risk but have no symptoms.
- HIV testing
- Testing for symptoms that may indicate the presence of an infection.
- Treatment for STIs.
- Education about STI prevention.
Most testing will require a urine sample. To ensure accuracy, do not urinate at least one hour before the sample is taken.
Your risk of infection is determined by your sexual practices, including the use of barriers, choice of partners, and preventive vaccines. To determine your risk for STIs and which vaccines you need, use the online STD Wizard and bring your results to an STI screening appointment.
- For more information on individual infections, please go to MedLine Plus Sexually Transmitted Diseases.
Medical Services provides HIV testing with a blood test. The lab results are filed in your medical record along with your other test results. Your medical record is confidential, and the results will not be released without your permission unless subpoenaed by law. Positive test results for communicable infections, including chlamydia, hepatitis B, gonorrhea, syphilis, HIV and hepatitis C, must be reported to the County Department of Public Health.
PrEP is an important means of preventing the spread of HIV. Schedule a visit or contact your provider to see if PrEP is right for you.
