Using Your Cardinal Care Insurance

If you are covered by Cardinal Care, the university’s student health insurance plan, you may use the coverage to purchase your medication(s). Please be sure to have your insurance card with you when you come to pick up your prescription. Most prescriptions that are purchased using Cardinal Care will require a co-payment at the time of service. Under Cardinal Care, the 2018-2019 co-payment is $10 for generics, $35 for brand-name formulary drugs, and $50 for specialty and brand non-formulary drugs.

Generic contraceptives are available with no cost-share to the student (part of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, PPACA). Under PPACA, brand-name contraceptives are available with no cost-share when there is no generic equivalent available. If a brand-name contraceptive is preferred and a generic is available, the difference in cost will be charged to the student (cost will be determined at time of service).
