Welcome to Stanford University! As you begin your journey as a Stanford student, please take some time to learn about resources available to support your health. Through assessment of the Campus Health Service Fee, you will have access to Vaden Health Center, the on campus medical clinic serving students exclusively. But, for care not available through Vaden, an important consideration is the health insurance you will carry as a student. Whether you are away from home for the first time, or coming in as a professional or graduate student, the information in this section applies to you. Please read it carefully, as you will need to make decisions about coverage and take action before applicable deadline(s). At a Glance: Important Must-Dos and Deadlines
Convey Your Health Insurance Decision (Stay Enrolled in Cardinal Care or Request to Waive Coverage)
- ALL students are automatically enrolled in Cardinal Care, the university’s student health insurance plan and must acknowledge understanding of the Cardinal Care Enrollment Policy in Axess.
- Once acknowledgement has occurred, students who wish to waive coverage must submit a request to waive by the applicable deadline (Sept. 15 for Autumn entry students).
Enroll Your Dependents in Dependent Care (for Students in Cardinal Care)
- Students who opt to have health insurance coverage through Cardinal Care may enroll their dependents in Dependent Care during the Open Enrollment period associated with their quarter of entry (Sept. 1 through Sept. 30 for Autumn entry students).
