More About Vaden's Travel Clinic

  • Individualized Recommendations - The appointment includes a travel and health assessment that considers the traveler’s health history, mode and purpose of travel, and the health and safety issues of the destination. Individualized recommendations and prevention strategies are provided based on the assessment.
  • Immunizations - We provide recommended and required immunizations, including Yellow Fever for the International Certificate of Vaccination. Immunizations are charged separately. Some immunizations are now covered under the Affordable Care Act.
  • Counseling on Preventive Measures to Reduce illness and Injury - Vaccines, altitude illness, jet lag, travel health insurance, prevention and treatment of rabies, personal safety and crime prevention, specifics on when and how to get care abroad, as well as other topics, may be discussed.
  • Prevention of Malaria and Other Insect-borne Diseases - Travelers are advised regarding the distribution of malaria, drug-resistant malaria, and the proper use of antimalarial drugs and measures to protect against mosquito bites.
  • Prevention and Self-treatment of Traveler’s Diarrhea - Traveler’s diarrhea is the most frequent problem affecting travelers, particularly those traveling in the developing world. Prevention and self-treatment of traveler’s diarrhea is reviewed with the traveler during the consultation.
  • Prescriptions - Prescriptions for antimalarial medication, antibiotics to treat traveler’s diarrhea, and medication to prevent altitude sickness may be recommended.

The clinic is staffed by nurses who hold a certificate in travel health. For additional information, see the Medical Services Staff page.

Schedule your appointment at least four to six weeks before departure to allow enough time to receive the recommended vaccinations. Travelers with identified risk factors and/or disease symptoms should make an appointment in Medical Services for a pre-travel assessment.

  1. Complete our travel health history questionnaire on VadenPatient prior to your appointment, or print out and complete the form and bring it with you to the appointment.
  2. Complete the online pre-travel course, Beyond Backpacks.
  3. Bring your immunization record and/or your International Certificate of Vaccination (the “yellow card”) with you. Having a complete and current immunization record can help reduce the expense of receiving unnecessary immunizations.
