Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS)
CAPS offers a variety of services including individual psychotherapy, group therapy, psychiatry services, and crisis intervention. Please read below to learn how to access CAPS services:
If you have not been seen at CAPS before, you will first be scheduled for a phone assessment appointment. The purpose of this 5-10 minute phone call is for us to understand the focus of your concern and how it is affecting your daily life. After a CAPS clinician assesses your needs, they will collaborate with you to determine the next best step. Services may include individual or group therapy, psychiatry services including medication evaluation and management, or a referral to your medical insurance's behavioral health plan, and/or other campus and community resources. During your phone assessment, you may request a specific therapist on the basis of ethnicity, expertise in sexual orientation and gender identity, or professional training. Specific requests may mean a longer wait until such a therapist becomes available.
Phone assessment appointments can be made at CAPS by calling 650-723-3785, by accessing the VadenPatient
portal through the Vaden website, or by coming to the second floor of the Vaden Health Center from 8:30 am–5 pm Monday through Friday.
All other appointments, including return appointments and medication follow-ups can be scheduled by calling the front desk. If you’d like to participate in a RIVER Workshop, please schedule a phone assessment.
If you are experiencing a crisis or are in need of urgent psychological care, you may access services by coming directly to CAPS during business hours (8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday) or calling 650-723-3785 (24 hours/7 days a week) to speak with a clinician.
