Important deadlines that we recommend familiarizing yourself with so that you can be as informed as possible during your time with Stanford.

Deadline for Health Insurance Decision for DOMESTIC Students (US Citizens and US Permanent Residents)

Entering the University based on quarter of entry

• Autumn Quarter: You must acknowledge enrollment or request a waiver from enrollment in Cardinal Care in Axess no later than September 15. 
• Winter Quarter: You must acknowledge enrollment or request a waiver from enrollment in Cardinal Care in Axess no later than December 15.
• Spring Quarter: You must acknowledge enrollment or request a waiver from enrollment in Cardinal Care in Axess no later than March 15.
• Summer Quarter: You must acknowledge enrollment or request a waiver from enrollment in Cardinal Care in Axess no later than June 15.

Deadline for Health Insurance Decision for INTERNATIONAL Students

Entering the University based on quarter of entry

• Autumn Quarter: You must acknowledge enrollment in Cardinal Care in Axess by September 15 OR or submit the International Student Insurance Coverage Certification Form to waive coverage by August 15.
• Winter Quarter: You must acknowledge enrollment in Cardinal Care in Axess by December 15 OR or submit the International Student Insurance Coverage Certification Form to waive coverage by November 15.
• Spring Quarter: You must acknowledge enrollment in Cardinal Care in Axess by March 15 OR submit the International Student Insurance Coverage Certification Form to waive coverage by February 15.
• Summer Quarter: You must acknowledge enrollment in Cardinal Care in Axess by June 15 OR or submit the International Student Insurance Coverage Certification Form to waive coverage by May 15.

Deadlines to Petition for Early Cancellation of Cardinal Care Health Insurance

• Applicable ONLY to Students Who Graduate at the End of Autumn or Winter Quarter

  • Note: Retroactive cancellation of coverage is not an option. 

If you plan to graduate at the end of Autumn Quarter, and wish to cancel your Cardinal Care coverage, you may petition to do so (see link to form below). All Autumn graduate petitions must be received by Vaden's Insurance and Referral Office no later than December 15. Coverage cancellation is effective as of January 1. If you do not petition by December 15, you will remain enrolled in Cardinal Care through August 31.  

If you plan to graduate at the end of Winter Quarter, and wish to cancel your Cardinal Care coverage, you may petition to do so (see link to form below). All Winter graduate petitions must be received by Vaden's Insurance and Referral Office no later than April 15. Coverage cancellation is effective as of May 1. If you do not petition by April 15, you will remain enrolled in Cardinal Care through August 31. 

Students who graduate at the end of Spring Quarter are not eligible for cancellation of the annual plan. Cardinal will continue through August 31.
