For International Students

American Health Care

American health care can be confusing to international students since no national health care system exists in the United States. Health insurance can be expensive, but it costs far less than buying services directly from health care providers. Many organizations offer health insurance to foreign students.

Please carefully read the information on Cardinal Care (Stanford's student health Plan). Together Vaden Health Center and Cardinal Care offer high quality care coverage at a reasonable price.

Spouse (or Domestic Partner) and Children

Currently, Stanford University does not sponsor a health care insurance plan for dependents. The Insurance Office at Vaden developed a Dependent Health Insurance resource guide to help you select a plan that works best for your family. Staff in the Insurance Office are available to assist you and may be contacted at (650) 723-2135 or send an e-mail message to healthinsurance@stanford.edu.
